Sonja Turner Fegić was born in Zagreb, Croatia, on December 9, 1963. She spent most of her life on the streets of Zagreb, while in recent years she has been creating, working, and living in Velika Gorica. After finishing high school, she acquired the profession of photographer and enrolled in the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. Her aspiration towards art and love for creation led her to the fields of photography, graphic design, as well as digital photography processing and digital animations. Always striving for the growth of her creative narrative, she turns to painting with acrylic paints and exploring shapes made from epoxy resin. From 2009 to 2016, she was an active member of the art association Mansarda, under whose auspices she created and collaborated with art galleries in Croatia. From 2013 to 2016, she began collaborating with the heritage preservation association Šćitarjevo, for which she made replicas of Roman jewelry, which inspiringly led her to draw on Roman motifs in the creation of her collections. The striving for a greater and deeper artistic expression from another perspective, into more tangible real forms, led her in 2013 to the art workshop of Davor Šuk. Under his mentorship, she completed her education as an artistic jewelry designer. She continues to explore new metal treatment techniques at experimental jewelry making workshops at the Open University of Zagreb, as well as through advanced learning of skills at the 'Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School' in Florence. In 2016, she became the workshop leader for artistic jewelry making at the Open University of Zagreb. She is a regular member of ULUPUH (Croatian Association of Applied Arts Artists), in the section for the design of precious metals and artistic jewelry, and HZSU (Croatian Association of Independent Artists). Since 2021, she has been the president of ULUPUH's section for designing precious metals and artistic jewelry, as well as a member of the ULUPUH Management Board. Sonja is involved in numerous exhibitions and fashion shows, presenting her vision of the world around, especially architecture, transforming it into wearable artistic forms, symbolically and simply. In the world of colors, she often leans toward a monochromatic palette and contrast of light and dark, emphasizing the strength of shapes. The solidity and color of the metals she uses depend on the final expression she wishes to achieve or the challenge of the themes she explores. Most often, these are silver, copper, and brass, sometimes combined with wood or enamel elements. In recent years, Sonja has begun to mentor and educate participants on how to express and emphasize new perspectives through color, introducing them to the technique of enameling and the richness of techniques using glass powder applied to metal and baked at high temperatures. Along with a favorite quote from a great artist, she continues to grow and create. “Don’t think about making art, just get it done.
