About the artwork

The diptych consists of two textile compositions of different fabrics made with the faux chenille technique. The textile composition is stitched and cut in different directions. In this way, a dynamic surface is obtained and the colors flow through the layers, almost in a painterly way. Hand embroidery adds an extra dimension

Through work, studies and research, the author discovered the expressive capabilities of textiles, and now different fabrics and yarns are her preferred materials for artistic creation. The wealth of colors, fibers, textures, the combination of traditional and innovative techniques for processing materials and surfaces, the variety of potential interventions enable "painting" with textiles that cannot be achieved with paint alone.

Barbara Jugovac was born in 1973 in Koper, Slovenia. She attended high school in Buje (Croatia), and graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb (Croatia), majoring in Textile Design. She completed several other schools and programs in the fields of styling, fashion, art and design. She likes to learn, research and experiment. While working with various materials, techniques and processes, she also discovered the expressive capabilities of textiles, which she has used mostly in her artistic work in recent years, often in unexpected ways. She is the owner of the brand "Sharena", for which she designs and makes handbags from upcycled textile materials. In addition, she designs and makes clothes, participates in fashion shows, and designs and leads creative art workshops with paints and textiles for all ages. She lives and works in Zagreb.
